Joshua Keum · Finance & Strategy · Baruch College

I do my sharpest work when the problem is a mess and nobody's sure what the answer is.

Finance student at Baruch, and an aspiring strategy and operations consultant and business analyst. I diagnosed UPS's volume for margin trade straight from public filings, then built DealDesk, a free tool that turns a company's financials into four consulting deliverables. Building things like that is how I spend my free time.

Work experience

Each role follows the same shape: Problem → Approach → What I built → Result.

Business Development

Bridge Philanthropic Consulting

Problem
An advisory client needed to grow its base of donors and partners, but prospect research was slow, manual, and hard to scale.
Approach
Studied the funding landscape and competitive dynamics, restructured the research process, and brought AI into the grind.
What I built
A sourced pipeline of prospective donors and partners. I also pitched a workflow for speeding up how client presentations get made, which the team turned into a prompt they could use.
Result
A pipeline the team could work from, and a faster path from research to a client deck. (Business Development Intern, 2026)
Data Analytics

YAEL Bio Lab

Problem
Marketing spend wasn't converting; budget was going to underperforming outreach.
Approach
Ran data-driven A/B tests and read Google Analytics to find what actually worked.
What I built
A reallocation plan and a set of actionable insights presented to upper management.
Result
Significantly higher website engagement and a meaningfully lower user-acquisition cost. (Data Analytics Intern, 2025)

Build log

A dated, living record of what I'm shipping right now.

  1. Demo day: presenting DealDesk and the UPS diagnosis, and shipping the final version of this site.

  2. Shipped DealDesk: a free tool that turns a company's financials into four consulting deliverables. No login, no AI in the product, and no cost to anyone who uses it. Now stress-testing it against real filings.

  3. Finished the UPS diagnosis and published all four pieces here: the memo, the deck, the model, and the interview guide. The call: the volume for margin trade is sound, but Q1 2026 was the trough, not the proof. The Q2 2026 margin print is the test.

  4. Rebuilt this portfolio from scratch: a hand-tuned static site designed to read like advisory work, built collaboratively with Claude Code.

  5. Wrapped my Business Development internship at Bridge Philanthropic Consulting after building out its donor and partner pipeline.

  6. Selected for the BNP Paribas Sophomore Opportunity Summit, with team case work presented to BNP analysts and recruiters.

Behind the scenes

How I built this site with Claude Code

I don't write code. I described what I wanted in plain English and pushed back on what came back. The real work was editorial: cutting my own copy down, catching a figure in my chart that my model never verified and replacing it with a gap, and deciding what earned a place on the page. Plain HTML and CSS, no template, no page builder, hosted for free. Same instinct as DealDesk: when a process is slow and manual, get a tool to do the grinding and spend the time on judgment.

About

I'm a finance student at Baruch College's Zicklin School of Business (3.97 GPA, Dean's List, Zicklin Undergraduate Honors Program), and an aspiring strategy and operations consultant and business analyst.

I grew up in a family of small business owners, which is where the interest started: I saw up close how much of running a business is repetitive work that nobody has time for. That's what I go after now. When I hit a process that's slow and manual, I build the tool that handles it, then spend the saved time on the actual thinking.

I don't need a clean brief to do good work; I need a real problem. Across private equity, business development, and data analytics internships, plus independent work like DealDesk and my UPS memo, I've learned to do one thing well: take a messy business problem I don't own, structure it, and turn it into a recommendation someone can defend. I lean on AI to move faster without cutting corners on the analysis.

Outside of work you'll find me on the basketball court or at the piano. I'm also into strength training, hiking, ping pong, guitar, and chess.
